  • Brock, Jordan Lead Rams to 3-3 Tie With Forest Hills

    The Richland Rams remained undefeated after playing Forest Hills to a 3-3 tie Tuesday.

    Dylan Brock scored on a late penalty kick to tie the game. She finished the matchup with one goal and one assist, contributing to two of Richland’s three goals.

    Goalkeeper Jenna Jordan also played a key role, recording nine saves. “The team is really clicking together,” Jordan said.

    The tie moved Richland’s record to 2-0-2, while Forest Hills moved to 1-1-1. Over the past six years, the Rams have a 4-5-1 record against Forest Hills.

    Richland will next face another difficult opponent in No. 1-ranked Somerset on Thursday.

  • Rams Golf Wins, Advances to LHAC Championship

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, the Richland Rams boys golf team traveled to Somerset to compete against Westmont Hilltop, Johnstown, Somerset, Forest Hills and Bishop McCort.
Richland took first place with a combined score of 320, defeating runner-up Somerset, which shot a 333. Wesley Dunlap and Liam Roman led the Rams, each shooting a 77.
The victory over a field that included rivals Westmont Hilltop and Bishop McCort earned Richland a place in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference championship at the end of the month.
With the victory, the Rams improved their season record to 39-5 as they continued their pursuit of an LHAC championship.

Brock Builds on All-Conference Freshman Season

After earning first-team all-conference honors as a freshman, Richland sophomore Dylan Brock is working to become an even stronger scorer and leader.

Brock plays striker, a position responsible for creating scoring opportunities and putting the ball in the net. She scored 13 goals during her freshman season and is on pace to surpass that total this year with a team leading 7 goals and 16 points through 4 games. 

Her responsibilities extend beyond scoring. Brock works to remain composed during difficult moments and encourages her teammates to do the same. She believes stronger communication can help the Rams stay organized when a game becomes challenging.

When the team falls out of sync and struggles to move the ball forward, Brock feels additional pressure to create scoring opportunities. She is often hard on herself, which can add to that pressure. In stressful situations, she focuses on controlling her breathing, regaining her composure and helping her teammates remain focused.

From a teammate’s perspective, Brock refuses to give up, regardless of the circumstances. She keeps her head up and continues competing when the team faces adversity.

Brock’s scoring ability, composure and decision-making have made her a valuable player for the Rams. Her leadership also helps her teammates work together and remain focused. Those qualities helped her earn all-conference recognition as a freshman and continue developing as a sophomore.

What to Watch:

Rams and Crushers Meet in District 6 Championship Rematch in Football

Richland and Bishop McCort will renew their football rivalry at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Herlinger Field.

The Rams enter the matchup with a 3-0 record. Bishop McCort is 1-2 after losing 14-6 to Bedford and 33-6 to Bellwood-Antis. The Crushers earned their first victory of the season with a 42-19 win over Chestnut Ridge.

Friday’s game is a rematch of the 2025 District 6 championship. Richland and Bishop McCort met twice last season and split the two matchups, giving this year’s meeting additional significance.

With an undefeated start, a championship rematch and a long-standing rivalry, Friday night’s game is expected to draw considerable attention at Herlinger Field.

No. 2 Richland Hosts No. 8 Bishop McCort in Volleyball Rivalry Match

The Richland Rams will host rival Bishop McCort at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.

Richland enters the matchup with a 10-2 record and a three-game winning streak. Bishop McCort enters at 2-3 and will look to build confidence with a victory over its rival.

One of the game’s key matchups will feature two senior captains, Bishop McCort’s Kylie Durst and Richland’s Addison Hirsch. Their performances could have a major influence on a match expected to remain competitive throughout the night.

Home-court advantage could also benefit the Rams. Richland’s student section regularly creates an energetic atmosphere at home sporting events, and its noise could make communication more difficult for the Crushers.

For Bishop McCort, a victory would provide momentum as the season continues. For Richland, the rivalry match represents another important challenge in its pursuit of another District 6 championship.

Experienced Rams Look to Build on Last Season’s Success

The Richland Rams volleyball team has started the season with a 10-2 record and appears ready to build on last year’s success.

Although the Rams lost several seniors from last season, head coach Lori Beard has an experienced roster capable of keeping the program competitive. The team finished last season with a 31-6-2 record and placed second in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference.

Richland’s early success has been led by Kiya Wise and Addison Hirsh. Wise leads the Rams with 83 kills, while Hirsh follows closely with 76. Their production, combined with strong teamwork throughout the roster, has helped Richland begin the season successfully.

The Rams have developed chemistry after several years of playing together. That experience should help the team as it faces stronger competition later in the season.

One of Richland’s most anticipated matches will be against rival Bishop McCort. The matchup will give the Rams an opportunity to show how they compare with one of their biggest rivals.

If Richland continues improving through practice and playing as a team, the Rams could be positioned for another successful season.

Richland senior Dom Shank has experienced football from two different perspectives. After suffering a broken femur, Shank stepped away from playing for nearly a full season. Instead of leaving football completely, he began broadcasting games and experienced the sport from behind the microphone.

Shank returns to the field for his senior season, but he is taking on different roles. After previously playing a variety of positions that included quarterback, he now settles into both the linebacker and wide receiver positions, adding much needed depth to both sides. Shank draws inspiration from Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt and his game-changing plays.

During the interview (see link to full interview above), Shank discussed what motivated him to return, how broadcasting changed the way he views football, and what it was like to play again after recovering from a serious injury.

Shank’s journey shows how a difficult setback can lead to a new experience and eventually bring an athlete back to the sport he loves.

Richland Rams Student Section Shows out: Making an Impact on Big Games

Richland’s student section brought energy to Herlinger Field as the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders came to town to face the Rams.

Students filled the stands Friday night and embraced the game’s neon theme. Neon green vests, bright orange shirts and hot pink clothing stood out under the stadium lights.

With Bishop Guilfoyle visiting for one of the week’s most anticipated matchups, the student section understood the importance of creating a difficult environment for the opposing team. Students remained loud throughout the game, especially when the Marauders had possession.

The crowd noise contributed to a challenging atmosphere for Bishop Guilfoyle. The Marauders committed several crucial penalties, including false starts and defensive offsides calls that benefited the Rams.

The student section’s energy continued into the final minute, when Richland intercepted a Bishop Guilfoyle pass to seal the victory. The win improved the Rams’ record to 2-0 and strengthened their position as contenders in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference and District 6 Class 2A.

The neon-themed night showed how Richland’s student section can contribute to the atmosphere at Herlinger Field during one of the season’s biggest games.
